Excursion of MS Logistics students – GEFCO and TPCA, Kolín

Students of minor specialization 3LT Logistics – International Transport and Freight Forwarding visited on Tuesday 19.11. 2019 the factory of GEFCO, which is a partner company of the Department of Logistics, and the company TPCA in Kolín. At first, they had a chance to see the GEFCO company premises, where they got acquainted with business processes related to automotive logistics and with the subject of business of the company. GEFCO, as a comprehensive logistics provider, deals with warehousing, distribution, transportation and logistics of finished cars, modifications of finished cars according to the requirements of end customers and car repairs. The excursion included a tour of the yard, which is used for outdoor storage of finished cars, and a visit to the individual workshops where the cars are being assembled for handover to dealers.

Subsequently, the students moved to the adjacent TPCA plant, where the second part of the excursion awaited them. TPCA is a joint venture between Toyota and Peugeot – Citroen. The excursion was opened by a presentation of the company video, in which the students got acquainted with the individual parts of the factory, including the paint shop, assembly shop, welding shop, press shop and quality control. The excursion to the production hall itself took the form of a guided train ride around individual lines. A significant part of the production is robotized at the plant, leading to higher reliability and production efficiency. The TPCA plant in Kolín has produced over 3,500,000 vehicles since its launch.
